How to Install Extensions on Edge Mobile (Android)

Prerequisites

Before you begin, you'll need to install Microsoft Edge Canary on your Android device. You can download it from the Google Play Store.

Note: Currently, extension support is only available in the Edge Canary version.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Enable Extensions Support

  1. Open Edge Canary and navigate to edge://flags
  2. Search for "Android extensions v3"
  3. Enable this flag

2. Enable Developer Mode

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Navigate to "About Microsoft Edge" (Last option in the list)
  3. Tap on the build version 5 times to enable developer mode (Last option in the list)

3. Download and Install Extensions

Quick Install: Headline Cleaner

  1. Click here to download Headline Cleaner
  2. Go to Settings > Developer Settings menu in Edge Canary
  3. Click "Extension install by crx"
  4. Select the downloaded file from your device

Installing Other Extensions

If you want to install a different extension:

  1. Browse the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store to find your desired extension

  2. Click on the extension and look at its URL. It will look like this: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/extension-name/abcdefghijklmnop Copy the last part after the last slash (the ID)

  3. Replace the ID in this URL template: https://edge.microsoft.com/extensionwebstorebase/v1/crx?response=redirect&x=id%3DEXTENSION_ID%26installsource%3Dondemand%26uc

  4. Follow the same installation steps as above:

    • Go to Settings > Developer Settings
    • Click "Extension install by crx"
    • Select the downloaded file

And that's it! Your extension should now be installed and ready to use.

Troubleshooting

  • If you don't see the extension working, try restarting Edge Canary
  • Make sure you're using the latest version of Edge Canary
  • Check that the extension is compatible with mobile browsers

Limitations

Please note that not all desktop extensions may work perfectly on mobile. Some extensions might have limited functionality or may not work at all due to the differences between desktop and mobile browsers.
